In a move to strengthen security operations across the country, the Uganda Prisons Service has launched a Refresher Course for Prisons Armory Personnel at the Prisons Academy and Training School (PATS).
The course brings together Non-Commissioned Officers drawn from prison units nationwide who are responsible for the management, storage and accountability of arms and related security equipment.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Commissioner of Prisons Brenda Sana, in charge of Human Resource Planning and Development, who highlighted the importance of continuous training for officers entrusted with sensitive security responsibilities.
During the course, participants will be trained in Skills at Arms, AK-47 operations, armory management, computer literacy, fire safety precautions, security control systems, ethical conduct, effective communication, record keeping, arms correspondence and custody of keys.
The training is expected to enhance professionalism, improve accountability, strengthen record management and equip officers with the knowledge and skills required to safely manage firearms and armories.
Uganda Prisons Service has continued to invest in capacity building for personnel holding critical responsibilities. In recent years, the Service has conducted specialized training for Data Clerks and Receptionists, Gatekeepers, Drivers, Custodial Health Workers, Store Keepers and other key staff.
The refresher course proves the Service's promise to build a competent workforce capable of supporting the safe, secure, and efficient management of prisons across Uganda.
