Senior officers of the Uganda Prisons Service have commenced an Institutional Leadership and Management Program organized by the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) at the Prisons Academy and Training School.
The 22-day program is tailored for officers undertaking the 5th Uganda Prisons Intermediate Command and Staff Course. It aims to strengthen their knowledge and skills in human resource management, professionalism and performance, project planning and resource mobilization, entrepreneurship, and leadership and management.
Speaking at the launch, officials emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in building a modern, effective, and service-oriented prison system.
The leadership and management component has been a key part of the Intermediate Command and Staff Course since its inception.
Officers who attended the previous four intakes have gone on to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their respective areas of deployment, contributing to improved service delivery across the Uganda Prisons Service.
Uganda Prisons Service and Uganda Management Institute have maintained a strong partnership over the years in developing the capacity of prison officers. The collaboration continues to equip officers with the leadership and management skills needed to effectively execute their duties and support the transformation of the Service.
The training highlights the Uganda Prisons Service’s commitment to building a professional, competent and accountable workforce capable of meeting the demands of modern correctional management.
