The Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, led a strategic and policy working tour at UG. Prison Farm Ngogwe in Buikwe District, East Central Region, where he officially opened a newly established female section. Accompanied by UPS top management, department heads from Prisons Headquarters, and Regional and District Prisons Commanders, the visit highlighted the Uganda Prisons Service’s (UPS) strides in infrastructural development, staff welfare, and inmate rehabilitation.
Dr. Byabashaija praised Ms. Esther Lamunu, Superintendent of Prisons and Officer-in-Charge of Ngogwe Prison, for spearheading the infrastructural advancements, particularly the new female section, which enhances access to justice and humane custody for female inmates. He lauded Ngogwe Prison as a flagship facility, encouraging Officers-in-Charge (OCs) across the region to emulate its success to strengthen UPS’s corporate image.
