Graphics Systems Uganda Limited has donated a ventilator to the Uganda Prisons Service for use at the Luzira Prisons Staff Hospital, as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
The machine supports breathing or takes over the breathing process when a patient is unable to breathe adequately without assistance. Its installation at the hospital will improve the facility’s ability to care for critically ill patients, benefiting prison officers and neighboring communities across Greater Kampala.
While receiving the donation, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, thanked Graphics Systems Uganda Limited for the gesture and praised the company for its work in the manufacturing industry. He encouraged the company to continue growing, reach wider international markets and contribute to Uganda’s
economic development.
He noted that the ventilator would strengthen medical services at the hospital and improve access to life-saving treatment for prison staff and members of the surrounding community.
Dr. Byabashaija later toured the company’s production facilities, where he was taken through its industrial, commercial, flexographic and large-format printing, as well as packaging, graphic design, corporate garment manufacturing and promotional products.
The company’s Managing Director, Mr. Khalil Hajee, said Graphics Systems Uganda employs more than 1,000 people. He reaffirmed the company’s long-standing relationship with the Uganda Prisons Service, thanking the Commissioner General for his guidance and leadership. He also appreciated the security and support provided by prison officers.
Hon. Fred Ruhindi, Member of Parliament for Nakawa East*, congratulated Dr. Byabashaija on receiving the Exemplary Service Medal, Class One, in recognition of his service. He also commended his leadership of the Uganda Prisons Service.
Hon. Ruhindi said peace and stability had helped create favourable conditions for businesses to invest and grow. He thanked Graphics Systems Uganda for supporting the people of his constituency and encouraged residents to make use of the Luzira Prisons Staff Hospital for quality healthcare.
The donation highlights the role private companies can play in supporting public health services. It also reflects the long-standing relationship between Graphics Systems Uganda and the Uganda Prisons Service, with both institutions contributing to the welfare of prison officers and the wider Luzira community.
