Today, June 17, 2025, Mr. Hillary Bisanga, Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons (Director of Human Resource Management), officiated the launch of the Fourth Prisons Intermediate Command and Staff Course at the Prisons Academy and Training School (PATS) in Luzira. The ceremony marked the beginning of an intensive training program for 58 carefully selected prison officers from various prison units.
In his address, Mr. Bisanga emphasized the importance of the course in enhancing the professional capabilities of prison officers. He urged participants to draw inspiration from high performers to improve their skills, noting that the course is designed to strengthen analytical thinking, command capabilities, and supervisory skills. “This training equips officers to bond effectively with external stakeholders, engage in operational-based planning, and make informed decisions,” he said.
Mr. Bisanga also highlighted the Uganda Prisons Service’s contributions to the broader economy, particularly through its enhanced production of quality maize seed, cotton, furniture, and apparel.
He highlighted the importance of strategic collaborations, urging officers to work closely with Justice, Law, and order sector (JLOS) actors and avoid operating in isolation to achieve greater impact.
